Mental health

Health is the most important in everyone's life and we do lot of things to be healthy.
We are so much concern about our Physical health but often forget that being mentally healthy is equally important.
The World Health Organization defined health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
So today I am gonna discuss about our mental health.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act.
It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Mental illness is more common than most people expect. Everyone can suffer from mental illness at any point of time in his life. A large survey in the UK found 1 in 6 people of working age suffer from a mental illness; mental illness is as common as asthma. Among those above 65 years old, one out of twenty suffers from dementia. Depression affects about 5% of men and 10% of women in developed countries. In 2000, the World Health Organization predicted that 20 years later, depression will become the second biggest burden of disease, second to ischemic heart disease.
The stigma and misunderstanding on mental illness in society discourage patients to seek help and receive treatment. Even if the patients have plucked up courage to seek treatment, they often conceal their illness from their family and peers. This made a general misconception that mental illnesses are rare. Therefore, when we understand that the fact that mental illnesses are common and treatable, we are more able to combat mental illnesses.
Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:
•Family history of mental health problems.
•Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry.
•Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse.
While there are over 200 classified forms of mental illness, the five (5) major categories of mental illness are:
1-Anxiety Disorders
2-Mood Disorders
3-Schizophrenia/Psychotic Disorders
4-Dementias
5-Eating Disorders
National Mental Health survey shows urban areas to be most affected
At least 13.7 per cent of India’s general population has various mental disorders; 10.6 per cent of them require immediate interventions.
Common mental disorders such as depression, anxiety and substance use are as high as 10 per cent in the total population.
Almost 1 in 20 suffer from depression; it is found to be higher in females in the age-group 40-49 years
22.4 per cent of the population above 18 years suffers from substance use disorder
The highest was contributed by tobacco and alcohol use disorder
Nearly 1.9 per cent of the population is affected by severe mental disorders
While nearly 10 per cent of the population has common mental disorders, 1.9 per cent of the population suffers from severe mental disorders.
Not sure if you or someone you know is living with mental health problems? Experiencing one or more of the following feelings or behaviors can be an early warning sign of a problem:
•Eating or sleeping too much or too little.
•Pulling away from people and usual activities.
•Having low or no energy.
•Feeling numb or like nothing matters.
•Having unexplained aches and pains.
•Feeling helpless or hopeless.
•Smoking, drinking, or using drugs more than usual.
•Feeling unusually confused, forgetful, on edge, angry, upset, worried, or scared.
•Yelling or fighting with family and friends.
•Experiencing severe mood swings that cause problems in relationships.
•Having persistent thoughts and memories you can't get out of your head.
•Hearing voices or believing things that are not true.
•Thinking of harming yourself or others.
•Inability to perform daily tasks and etc.
A mental illness can have an effect on every aspect of a person’s life, including thinking, feeling, mood, and outlook and such areas of external activity as family and marital life, work, recreation, and management of material affairs. Most mental disorders negatively affect how individuals feel about themselves and impair their capacity for participating in mutually rewarding relationships.
The attitude of many Indians towards this problem isn’t helping.
The stereotypes and stigma in India are all the more evident in the respondents’ attitudes towards those who are suffering from mental illnesses. Some 60% of those surveyed believed one of the main causes was a lack of self-discipline and willpower, and 60% agreed that those who suffer from them should have their own groups so as not to “contaminate” healthy people.
Interventions, focusing on raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health, are necessary for addressing the situation.
There are ways that you can improve your mental health. First, try to recognize your condition and understand why you are in this situation . Sorting out the causes of sadness, stress, and anxiety in your life can help you manage your emotional health.
its all up to you that how you are leading your mind and how you are dealing with situations.
There are some ways you can use to avoid being mentally stressed:- like,
Try to connect as much as you can with others, Stay positive, Eat healthy, Do exercise, boost your, self esteem,
Be physically active, Try to help others, Get enough sleep, avoid overthinking and most importantly get professional help if you need it.
Many people diagnosed with mental illness achieve strength and recovery through participating in individual or group treatment. There are many different treatment options available. There is no treatment that works for everyone – individuals can chose the treatment, or combination of treatments, that works best.
Psychotherapy- Psychotherapy is the therapeutic treatment of mental illness provided by a trained mental health professional.  Psychotherapy explores thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and seeks to improve an individual’s well-being.  Psychotherapy paired with medication is the most effective way to promote recovery.  Examples include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, etc.
Medication – Medication does not outright cure mental illness.  However, it may help with the management of symptoms.  Medication paired with psychotherapy is the most effective way to promote recovery.
Support Group – A support group is a group meeting where members guide each other towards the shared goal of recovery.  Support groups are often comprised of nonprofessionals, but peers that have suffered from similar experiences.
Complementary & Alternative Medicine – Complementary & Alternative Medicine, or CAM, refers to treatment and practices that are not typically associated with standard care.   CAM may be used in place of or addition to standard health practices.
Self Help Plan – A self-help plan is a unique health plan where an individual addresses his or her condition by implementing strategies that promote wellness.  Self-help plans may involve addressing wellness, recovery, triggers or warning signs.
Peer Support – Peer Support refers to receiving help from individuals who have suffered from similar experiences.

I just want to request to everyone that if you see someone suffering from mental disease, don't make fun of them, they only requires your little care and support.
it's not infectious disease so please help them as much as you can.
if you experience change Behaviour of people around you then go and talk with them and also if you go through something like this them it's time to check what's going wrong in life.
we all need to create an environment where all these kind of disease won't take place we need to create an environment where we all can live happily.
So this is all on this topic. I have tried my best.. though there are a lot of things you need to know about it which is easily available you on internet.
Thanks for support :)
